Security Wall: Iran’s Eastern Border Sealing Project
WANA (May 04) – The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army has been tasked with sealing the country’s eastern and northeastern borders with security walls over a three-year period. The project aims to counter illegal crossings, smuggling, uncontrolled migration, and infiltration by terrorist groups.
An Engineered Response to Silent Threats
Covering an area of over 1,648,195 square kilometers, Iran is among the largest countries in West Asia and shares land and sea borders with 15 neighboring countries.
For years, Iran’s eastern borders have been a route for unlawful crossings. Now, with the implementation of an extensive new project, the army is working to establish lasting security in these regions.

A significant portion of the plan is being carried out by the Army Ground Forces’ Northeastern Command. Four engineering units have launched construction of the wall across a 300-kilometer stretch of the border.
Allocation of €3 Billion Budget for Eastern Border Sealing
Seyed Majid Mirahmadi, Deputy Minister for Security and Law Enforcement in Iran’s 13th government, announced on April 27, 2024, that the late President Ebrahim Raisi had urgently approved the allocation of a €3 billion budget for this project over a five-year period. Implementation began in July 2024 with the installation of border walls.
930 Kilometers of Wall
Brigadier General Siros Amanollahi, commander of the Army’s Northeastern Headquarters, stated that the walls will extend for 930 kilometers, from the Zulfaqar Pass to Malek-Siah-Kuh. The goal is to prevent illegal entry and protect the nation’s security and territorial integrity.

Structure and Implementation of Eastern Border Sealing
The walls are 4 meters tall, 3.8 meters wide, and weigh 14 tons. So far, 65 kilometers have been installed, with another 15 kilometers ready for deployment. These structures are equipped with smart sensors capable of distinguishing between humans and animals, significantly reducing illegal crossings.
Technical and Human Support for Full Protection
The sealing plan is not limited to just walls. These walls are supported by fences, watchtowers, 360-degree cameras, tall masts, and drones. Additionally, Army ground force combatants will be present alongside border guards of the Law Enforcement Force on the frontlines of border defense.
